SPIN - Sponsored Programs Information Network |
SPIN is a searchable international data base of funding opportunities based on a US system created by InfoEd. It is available through the World Wide Web and individuals can run searches at any time. The University subscribes to SPIN and therefore access can only be obtained from a University registered machine. There is on line help available. If you experience any difficulties contact Susanne Birch.

GENIUS - Global Expertise Network of Industry, Universities and Scholars |
GENIUS is a searchable expertise database which works in conjunction with SPIN and SMARTS to provide funding information automatically to researchers.
The Office of Research Services has established a pro-forma to collect profile information for entry onto GENIUS. If you do not already have a GENIUS profile established, please download and complete the form. Once returned to the ORS, your profile will be entered on to GENIUS for you.
GENIUS also has a search engine which allows you to search the profiles stored in the database. This can be useful if you are looking for a national or international collaborator, an individual with specific expertise or simply contact details of a known individual.

SMARTS - SPIN Matching and Researcher Transmittal System |
SMARTS is the facility which will allow individual researchers to enter their research interests, categorised by the keywords within SPIN, and thereby develop a profile of personal research interests. Whenever a funding scheme is updates on the SPIN system, the keywords associated with that scheme are cross checked against the research profiles. If there is a match, then SMARTS automatically sends a targeted email notifying the individual of the opportunity. |
