Introduction
Research is important to the University and its commitment to
the state and to the national and global partners and stakeholders.
In the complex contemporary research environment, access to high
quality information, including funding sources and their requirements,
is important. The following documents and links provide information
to help you in your establishment and development at the University
of Tasmania.
- Induction
– Your 1st month: Settling In helps you through some key
research documents
- An overall guide to policies, procedures and practices at UTas
is the Researcher’s Guide
(162KB pdf)
- Funds are available for academics in their first 6 months at
UTas through the New Academic Research
Grants Scheme (NARGS) (92KB rtf).
- The Institutional Research Grants
Scheme (IRGS) is for academics who are not named as a Chief
Investigator on an externally funding grant. 50% of these funds
are held for Early Career Researchers.
- Active involvement in a conference can be crucial for networking
and developing links for new research. The Conference
Central Support Scheme (2.5MB rtf) will co-fund your conference
attendance
- In many years, enough information regarding the ranked position
of an ARC application allows the university to invest in those
applications that just missed out. You do not need to apply for
funding as a “Near Miss”.
There are numerous schemes available to support research. Over
40% of the schemes we advertise have not been applied to by UTas
applicants. Consider some of these other schemes as outlined on
the Funding opportunities site
