Can I submit an application/tender myself? |
- No, responsibility for research grants and consultancies
are PVCR.
- In order to ensure the PVCR is properly informed, staff
at the Office of Research Services need to have sufficient
time to check the documentation and obtain the signature

Does it matter if University of Tasmania
is not the administrating institution? |
- No, but your HOS needs to be aware of the activity in
which you are involved.
- You should complete the Submission Form, obtain the
HOS signature and lodge a copy of the application with
the Office of Research Services. When it is successful,
if there are funds to be transferred to the University
of Tasmania we can assist by preparing the contract.
- Consider also if there is a need for ethics clearance

Will I need to purchase equipment, computers
and/or software? |
- You should consult the finance and business services
if you wish to purchase foreign exchange
- Does the source of funds allow for the purchase of equipment
and what are the funding body conditions attached to the
purchase of equipment.
- Don’t forget to have your equipment noted on the
Assets Management system
- It is important to protect computer equipment from theft
and ensure adequate insurance protection.

Can a student be involved in my research
project? |
- Yes and you need to consider the nature of the project
and the contractual obligations. It may be necessary to
have the student sign a Deed of Assignment
|
Can a student be a named researcher? |
- Yes but not as first named Investigator
|
Will I need to employ staff? |
- You need to consult Human Resources
- You will need to follow School procedures and should
consult your HOS before proceeding
|
Are there certain requirements for my
research and data records? |
- The University has adopted the AVCC/NHMRC
Code of Conduct in research. Each School will have
developed data storage appropriate to the discipline
|
What do I do if the contract is sent
to me by the funding body? |
- Send it to the Grants Officer for your School, Office
of Research Services, Private Bag 01 together with any
ancillary or supporting documentation on the project
- Be sure to tells us of any relationship to other projects
and/or agreements that might be relevant

When can I start my project? |
- Always make sure you have all necessary clearances
BEFORE you begin. This would include any ethics clearances,
permits, a fully signed contract
|
What do I do if a cheque is sent to
me? |
- Send it directly to Finance and Business Services with
any additional information (such as the FMIS account or
Office of Research Services ref no) that will help them
credit the proper account
|
What happens if I have problems with
my project? |
- Let your HOS and the Office of Research Services know
as soon as possible if you are encountering problems.
We can often negotiate with the funding body. The consequence
of not dealing with the problems can result in Penalties
for the University so it is important to act as soon
as possible

Should I consider issues of Intellectual
Property? |
- The Pro Vice Chancellor (Research) has responsibility
for the protection and development of IP. You should consult
your HOS for their strategic plan as well as familiarize
yourself with the University policy
