‘Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research’ NHMRC, 2007

The intent of the Code is to outline, to researchers and institutions, responsible research practices. Community expectations and research integrity are key points addressed by the Code. The Code shows how to manage breaches of the Code and allegations of research misconduct, how to manage research data and materials, how to publish and disseminate research findings, including proper attribution of authorship, how to conduct effective peer review and how to manage conflicts of interest.
The Code is available at http://www.nhmrc.gov.au/publications/synopses/r39syn.htm

Useful Information about Experimental Design

The aim of this web site is to help you to reduce the numbers of animals used in research by better choice of animals and better experimental design.

Michael FW Festing has over 200 scientific papers on laboratory animal genetics and related topics to his name and has a particular interest in improving the design and statistical analysis of animal experiments in order to reduce the number of animals which are used. He has served on a number of regulatory bodies including the UK Animal Procedures Committee (a statutory committee which advises the Government on matters relating to the use of laboratory animals), the Council of the Institute of Laboratory Animal Research (ILAR) in Washington DC, and the Board of the NC3Rs (National Centre for Replacement, Refinement and Reduction) in the UK where he chairs the working party on experimental design.
