Animal Ethics Committee - External Review

Review of UTAS Animal Ethics Committee

An external review of the University of Tasmania’s Animal Ethics Committee was conducted in March 2006. The findings of this review were handed down in July 2006.

UTAS has accepted all recommendations of the review and is in the process of implementing a number of changes to AEC processes in light of review findings.

As part of the University’s policy management system PIRI (Planning, Implementation, Review, Improvement), the Chair of the AEC will meet annually with the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) to report on progress made in implementing review findings within the wider context of improvements in the AEC system.

Stakeholders are encouraged to participate in the PIRI system as it relates to the AEC by contacting animal.ethics@utas.edu.au with comments or suggestions pertaining to the review or any aspect of the administration of animal ethics at UTAS.

The next external review of the AEC will be conducted in 2009.
