Smoking and Health Research Foundation of Australia

There has been ongoing consideration of the matter of accepting support from the tobacco industry. No researchers have received funding through the tobacco industry at this time. Researchers interested in this area of support should continue to be informed of the issues involved and the attitude of some funding bodies (such as the National Heart Foundation) which would deny access to research funding.

It was resolved that the number of requests, grant applications and successes on this topic should be reported to the Research College Board and the matter kept under annual review. (22/6/94)

A paper on the views and practices of Australian higher education institutions on tobacco industry sponsorship was distributed for information. (8/12/95)
